Lydia Dawn, an artist and face painter, began face painting when she lived in Michigan. Her husband is an entertainer and he was the one who encouraged her to get involved in the business.
Lydia has been painting art since she was a teenager, so turning her talents to face painting was an easy transition for her. She began to paint faces at country clubs, summer camps, sporting events and birthday parties. “I generally paint tatoo art which is flowers and birds,” Lydia said. She encourages all different age groups to visit her but she said it is the children “who love to be painted.” She brings her own designs so children can choose their favorites.
Lydia uses washable, professional face paints made for the skin. She can even customize designs for a specific event. For example, Lydia was hired for the opening of the animated movie Monsters Inc. in 2001 to paint the cast of characters onto the movie-goers’ faces.
Each year, Lydia has a face-painting stand at the Bike Week in Flagler and 4th of July event in Flagler Beach. So be sure to check out her face-painting techniques and unique designs.
